New family fun options were revealed yesterday as Cedar Point unveiled the newly refurbished Gemini Midway to both the media and roller coaster enthusiasts. Last year, many of the same guests gathered to ride GateKeeper in the wee hours of the morning. This year’s event, keeping in theme of family fun, was held in the late afternoon to allow for families to attend and experience the new offerings. Among the highlights of the day was the first public opportunity to ride Pipe Scream. Pipe Scream features speeds reaching 43 mph as riders traverse a track in the shape of a wave while spinning on a skateboard like ride vehicle. Guests exiting the ride commented on not only how fun the ride was, but also the amount of strong forces that are present at various points along the 302 foot track. In addition, the park also unveiled the classic theme park ride, Lake Erie Eagles. This ride puts either one or two riders in an eagle themed ride car and allows them to control their own flight path as the ride spins. Many frequenters of theme parks look forward to riding this type of ride in order to experience a “snap” that allows the rider to get maximum height and a maximum diving experience. Both rides were well received by those in attendance and were said to be excellent additions to the park.

People in attendance were the first to experience not only the newly installed rides of Pipe Scream and Lake Erie Eagles, but also got to sample the famous Crab Fries from Chickie’s and Pete’s and frozen yogurt from Yogurt Plus. Yogurt Plus is one of the new food offerings on the Gemini Midway in addition to another Coke Freestyle station. The midway also features brand new cement and masonry work replacing the much derided blacktop that used to cover the ground. Also installed were new lighting packages, new string lights across the midway, and a new paint scheme for Cedar Point’s classic Monster ride.

After a few brief introductions and thanks from Tony Clark, Director of Communications and Jason McClure, VP and General Manager, guests were treated to a special surprise when they announced that the classic wooden coaster celebrating its 50th birthday this year, Blue Streak, and the best steel roller coaster in the world, Millennium Force, would open for exclusive ERT for all.
