Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Closing Roar

After 16 years of stomach-churning drops, crossovers, reversals and turns, the Roar roller coaster in Vallejo will coast into retirement. The Six Flags Discovery Kingdom theme park announced Thursday that the ride will close at the end of National Roller Coaster Day, Aug. 16. The wooden coaster, named for the roar of a California sea lion, made its debut in 1999.
