Skull Mountain Taking It’s Final Voyage

Six Flags America announced in a press release on Thursday, June 9, 2011 that they will be closing their beloved water ride, Skull Mountain. The ride will make its last voyage on Sunday, July 10, 2011. Six Flags America will be hosting a last rider auction, and all proceeds will benefit the Nation Roller Coaster Museum and Archive. As well as donating the money earned for the last rider auction, cars from the ride will be donated to the National Roller Coaster Museum and Archive. Along with the removal of Skull Mountain Six Flags America announced that they will be receiving a 2012 attraction in place of the water ride.

Naturally speculation on the 2012 ride has begun. Rumors have circulated that Six Flags America would receive a relocation of Iron Wolf at Six Flags Great America, but Six Flags Great America denied those rumors and stated that Iron Wolf “will be around for your enjoyment for years to come.” Other rumors are stating that Six Flags America will receive a B&M coaster for the 2012 season. On top of all these rumors, more rumors have surfaced that Six Flags America will be installing an Intimin Zacspin coaster, or a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter. It is safe to say no one knows what coaster this will be, or even if it will be a coaster, until the park makes an official announcement.

Sunday, July 10, 2011 is the last day that you will be able to strap on the wet and slimy seat belt and go on a pirate adventure.
